Well you cannot see the thing that is a member of the set of things we call "dog", and know it AS a dog, without reason. If that's what you mean then I agree. Babies, even before they seem to be able to reason, or interpret their senses, have emotion- so perhaps feeling is first- though not "best". That's all I was trying to say- that emotion- that rapid BURST of emotion we all sometimes feel- is probably the truest thing we have - although how true it is I really can't say, nor do I know if it corresponds to reality.

I think you misunderstood me, but I'm not sure.

The generalization need not be sentient or reasoning in nature. Simple pattern recognition will do to sort out the massive bandwidth pouring in thru the sensors. Predatory insects (as an example) use pattern recognition to jump the bug and dodge the bird.
