Chic,

Stradles are like a sick form of day trading. The only difference is you don't have to guess if a stock is going up or down, you just have to guess it will be volitile.

What happens in period of extreme volatility is that the option premiums go up, making it more difficult to make money. You need a bigger swing of the stock price to make money.
