Neal,

"Selective memory" does NOT make for good history lessons. After overthrowing the corrupt government, Castro looked to America for support. Unfortunately, he was turned down. For reasons of economics and security he was then forced to turn to Russia.

If you won't dance with me you shouldn't get upset if I find another dancing partner.

Excellent url, Neal - state.gov

"The loss of Cuba was an unqualified failure of the US, specifically JFK."

Specifically Eisenhower, actually ... JFK's watch didn't start until January of 1961 ... but in his turn he didn't do all that well either ... it was a difficult time, the peak of Cold War paranoia, lingering McCarthyism in the land, a group of recently affronted ex-lords of Cuba ranting in the ears of both administrations ... and Castro didn't help things much with his marxist-leninist comments and actions ... easy to see how all that could develop, in hindsight ... but from here we go on, question is - What next.
