"MediaOne Group, Inc. is a diversified global broadband communications company with the capability to offer video, high speed Internet access and telephone services simultaneously over its broadband network. The Company serves approximately five million domestic cable customers and passes 8.6 million homes. "

That will likely swell the rival cable modem company's subscriber ranks by
hundreds of thousands of people, as well as give it a broad new swath of territory to mine for new customers.

Does this mean that ATHM immediately after closure of the deal gets near 300k new subs PLUS the enlarged footprint of the 8.6 million homes passed? With just the subs before the handover or both (subs plus homes passed but not yet contracted), this will impact, this year on the bottom line- smaller loss, increased profit and that can be great news.

Victory from the jaws of defeat, eh?

Why not emulate what Att is doing with MSO?

I don't know why not. Let's assume the MSO provision telephony, internet access, broadcast tv etc.

What is left for the RBOCs if they only provision DSL, perhaps 40% of their existing residential market? Do we assume the RBOCs will simply abandon that market? I can't see that happening.
