Yes, that's the media spin story isn't it?

We have no way of knowing what their true intentions were, especially if the father was allowed to privately meet with the relatives for some time.

Unfortunately, it looks obvious the Cuban government gave strict orders on how Juan Miguel was to be handled while in the U.S. And the orders included him not being able to travel about freely, or meet with the relatives even for a moment.

It's interesting that any political operative from Cuba can visit him, but no independent news organizations, journalists or family member can. I would think it would be good for the child to at least see the women who was his mother for the better part of six months, in order to assuage any fears he may have that she died in the assault. But it's just not in the political cards I guess.

Politics undoubtedly determined this outcome ever since the Clinton administration changed their mind and took the issue out of the Florida family courts hand.

It's likely Fidel Castro threatened to unleash another "boat people" armado. And Bill Clinton panicked with the election coming up. Probably figured the boys (possible) freedom wasn't worth the political capital. And after all, Bill and Hillary always wanted to become the ultimate zookeeper like Fidel anyway. They probably admire Fidel and hold him in high esteem as their "El Presidenta" in the same way Dan Rather does.

If Cuban is so wonderful, and the people love him so, then why doesn't Fidel hold open and free elections?

We all know deep in our gut the answer to that one don't we?
