Thank you for your civil reply. My guess is that the overwhelming majority of folks in Mali favor this age-old practice, just as Jews and Muslims and others favor male circumcision, and would be horrified if Americans branded it as "oppressive" or employed the term "mutilation." Male circumcision is still widely practiced in the U.S. I believe, although it is on the decline.
