Cha2,

<< the most likely real world path for CDMA in China is 1XRTT (1xMC) and then HDR for data enhancement >>

Perhaps. What is ready to roll out today, however, is cdmaOne. Let us make it clear that 1XRTT (1xMC) WITH HDR is Vaporware <g>. It is just beginning the standards process in 3GPP2. I do BTW, have some hopes for HDR, but I've listened to my fellow Qheads apply the term "Vaporware" for so long to DS, while 1xMC was still "Vaporware" that I do not hesitate to point it out.

As for 3G CDMA in China, lets hope for 1xMC or UMTS. If TD-SCDMA were ready to roll out tomorrow (which it is not), I suspect it will be a long, long time before Qualcomm sees a royalty or license fee on it. China makes my neck ache, but it is such a huge unexploited market, it is worth playing the game, and credit Qualcomm with being so persistent. I do believe this persistence will pay off.

BTW: Did you catch Molloy's recent post on the "Baby Qualcomm" (shudder) thread:

Message 13786899

The post links the ETSI DS-WCDMA (aka UMTS) IPR Declaration page, and as W. points out "No IDCC !!!".

The responses should be interesting.

One consolation to the fact that Qualcomm is off 62.5% YTD is that InterDigital is off 78.5%. Talk about "easy come, easy go" or investing on a "wing and a prayer". When it comes to investing in wireless, I will take Moore's Gorilla Game principles over the "divine inspiration" of the CFP, Bill Dalglish, any day.

<< Now for some weekend fun, Ruffian >>

Have you ever checked out this link (enjoy the foot tapping music while the hol(y) page loads and click through any Java Script errors):

Hey, you ain't Ruffian.

Sorry in advance if this is considered sacrilegious to anyone. I like the music and needed a little foot tapping to perk up this holiday weekend that started with my Flyers hopes for a Stanley Cup squashed, the more famous Eric L. concussed again, and my golf game rained out.

<< PS And I agree with you that China (when - and even if - it happens)is frosting on the cake. It is potentially delicious and heavy frosting, but not the cake itself >>

Glad we are in agreement on that one. Have a great weekend.
