BigBull one other article in the Midland Paper today- power plants and NG demand. The State of Texas has 6800 additional megawatts capacity coming on line in Year 2000; 12,000 additional MWh capacity in year 2001 and then 12,000 MWh more capacity by Year 2003.

Roughly 90%+ of that capacity will be natural gas fired. That's about the equivalent of adding 10 1/2 major nuclear power plants' capacity say the size of the big Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant SW of Phoenix, AZ., in the State of Texas in only four years....

If you figure that a 1000 MWh capacity gas-fired plant uses roughly 125mmcf/day of natural gas, then the above buildout will juice NG demand within the state of Texas alone by about 3bcf/day (or less) by Year 2003.

I say "or less" because I am not sure whether any of these plants are only going to be peaking plants that will run just during peak electrical usage periods which is May-October in Texas....

Changing gears- Also FWIW likely areas for brownouts this summer IMO will be California, the Pacific Northwest, and then the Southeast....
