Donald, Lets say this is a bear, then how long do you think it will last. The mania is clearly over so according the the 100% rule, it is coming. No one is manic anymore and everyone is cautious. Lets say the bear is here and the markets makes it to the bottom -- different number out there but say DOW 7000-8000. How long to get there and how long to stay there. A decade, I don't think so but maybe. The technicals - trend lines - that report doom extending back to the 70's, don't help here since this time the lines have so severely deflected from the trend that its hard to figure.

I'm a scientist not a stock analyst. When I have a scientific hypothesis that doesn't fit the data, I make a new hypothesis. Could that be what we need here?
