Kenneth, From what I gathered from the text of the article on Cyras, the performance of their K2 box is an order of magnitude greater than Cerent's optical switch, which is an order or magnitude greater than legacy SONET gear. If this is indeed the case, then Cyras and/or Cisco would not have to compete on price. However, Lucent and Nortel would. In order to be price competitive, it is conceivable that Nortel and Lucent may have to drop their prices up to 90%, just to stay in the game. According to the Lightreading article, Nortel has already dropped its price. How low can they go before they throw in their cards?

It will be interesting to see how the order of battle develops. The stakes are high, and the deck is stacked.

I'm sure glad Ciena ain't the target.
