WaveRider Receives Approval to Sell and Install First Wireless Products in China TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2000-- NCL135 Wireless Bridge/Router First WaveRider Product to Receive MII Type Approval Certificate WaveRider Communications Inc. (OTCBB:WAVC) (Frankfurt:WVR.FSE), a leading global provider of wireless Internet access products, today announced it has been granted type approval from China's Radio Regulatory Department of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) for its NCL135 wireless bridge/router. The NCL135 is the first WaveRider product to be approved for sale and installation in the Chinese market. With China's MII approval, WaveRider is set to establish sales and distribution agreements with its customers in China. To date, the company has built relationships with several ISP's, VAR's and carriers who have immediate requirements for wireless data communication technology such as WaveRider's NCL135 bridge/routers. The company is also awaiting MII approval for its NCL1135, which was launched in North America on May 23, 2000. "The approval of our NCL135 bridge/router in China opens the door for WaveRider to achieve tremendous growth in that market," said Michael Orloff, Vice President, International, WaveRider Communications Inc. "With this approval and the recent opening of our office in Beijing, we are well positioned to aggressively market our family of wireless Internet access products and to provide our Chinese customers and business partners with direct access to local sales and support." In June 1999, WaveRider and its strategic partner, Golden Fortune Investments of Vancouver, British Columbia, announced the official approval of the Chinese Central Government's China Science Committee (CSC) to market WaveRider's wireless Internet solutions in China. With the MII approval, the company can now sell and distribute the NCL135 throughout China. The demand for wireless Internet services is expected to grow exponentially in the next few years. According to a recent study by the Yankee Group, it is expected that China will become the leading Asia-Pacific nation in terms of Internet users by 2001, with about 40 million people on-line. By 2005, China is expected to surpass the United States with the highest number of Internet users in the world. WaveRider's NCL135 enables high-speed wireless connectivity for LAN-to-Internet and LAN-to-LAN applications and provides secure, reliable connections to corporate computer networks, outlying offices and the Internet.
