Forbes article: "Smart machines proliferate like bunnies and eat bits like horses". Interesting analogy-I've heard it said that semi-fabs "eat like elephants and poop like canaries".

What I don't recall reading is how competition will cause MORE devices to come out at a faster rate. It seems we are just NOW turning on where most everyone is using technology in daily life with kids in schools each having a calculator and perhaps a pager. Soon they will have MP3/CD players then they will want portable photo display devices....Memory demand will grow exponentially. We seem to hear what the companies do to get the most DRAM on a chip but remember just how far a 10 Meg flash card will go and how powerful those will make all these PDAs. Another thought...how long do kids go before dropping these "Daddy, I just HAVE to have one" devices requiring a new purchase? I also think that competition will spur quick replacement as new features will be "must have"... and so people will get more.

Anyway, I sometimes wonder if our old models for planning for the tops are too conservative? I know I am very bullish so I will take profits on the way up again just to be sure to get some dry powder for the dips ( like our recent buy of LRCX at $24), but I still plan to hold a large position and plan to hold thru many cycles as I have with my first purchase of AMAT many years ago.

Food for thought... great day todaY!
