In no way do I argue that the God of much of what some of us call the Old Testament is not a bloodthirsty and militaristic character! Do you remember "How can we lose with God on our side?"? However, a belief in God does not necessarily entail wholesale adoption of the apologia and history of a nomadic people seeking a place to settle. Nor does a belief in God require a person to suspend his or her rational faculties; it may happen, but it is not necessary.
