Alcatel Introduces Comprehensive Access Management System BusinessWire, 05/31/2000 11:17 DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2000-- First-of-Its-Kind Software to Integrate Management of Litespan, ASAM, RAM and MiniRAM on One Common Element Management Platform Significantly enhancing the operations environment for the world's most broadly deployed base of Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) and Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) systems, Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) today introduced in North America a new version of its Access Management System (AMS) software, AMS 3.3. The first-of-its-kind application provides full element management of Alcatel's Litespan(R) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Subscriber Access Multiplexer (ASAM), Remote Access Module (RAM) and MiniRAM functionality from a common, scaleable management platform. Robust in its feature support for the Litespan and ASAM products, AMS 3.3 is highly expandable, and with clustering, is capable of managing up to 1,000 nodes per system. AMS 3.3 is a client/server-based architecture, and uses a graphical user interface (GUI) to fully manage all operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) functions for the Litespan platform. In addition, full OAM&P capabilities are provided for ASAM, RAM and MiniRAM, including support for ASAM Feature Group 5.1. With the release of AMS 3.3, customers in North America currently using AWS, the existing management system for the ASAM, RAM and MiniRAM, will be able to upgrade to the new AMS platform with no disruption of service. These customers will enjoy greater capacity, scalability and flexibility offered by AMS 3.3. According to Hal Thorne, group vice president for Alcatel Access Systems, "As the number of ADSL services and nodes supported by Alcatel's Litespan and ASAM products continues to grow dramatically, integrated management of these network elements has become critical to success. Building upon its leadership position in both NGDLC and ADSL, Alcatel delivers the first single element management system to provide seamless management of DSLAM and NGDLC based ADSL applications." About Alcatel DSL The world's leading supplier of DSL systems with market leadership in its Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Subscriber Access Multiplexer (ASAM) and Litespan(R) family of products, Alcatel has been supplying industry-standard end-to-end Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) solutions since 1996. Alcatel's Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access solutions are available on a variety of service platforms, including the Alcatel ASAM family; the Litespan Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC); and environmentally hardened Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) packages optimized for digital loop carrier deployment. The Alcatel ASAM holds over 55 percent of the worldwide central office ADSL market share. Alcatel's Litespan multi-service access platform, an integrated NGDLC/DSLAM, has a global embedded footprint of 57 million subscribers and growing. All Alcatel DSL platforms are commonly managed through a single access element management system. Alcatel's ASAM is NEBS (New Equipment Standards) (Level 3) compliant, enabling the ASAM to integrate seamlessly into service provider networks. The Alcatel DSL family is fully scaleable and supports a wide variety of service packages, including asymmetric and symmetric offerings and can be easily deployed in service provider networks, including collocation environments, providing excellent density, efficient power utilization and high performance. Alcatel's ADSL solutions support full-rate discrete multi-tone (DMT) ADSL as well as reduced rate G.lite ADSL on a single line card, maximizing a carrier's service options while minimizing costs. Alcatel's DSL technology is also offered in an advanced range of customer premises equipment, including the Alcatel Speed Touch? family of DSL modems, routers, and integrated access devices supporting multi-line voice and data service over a single telephone access line. Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of EURO 23 billion in 1999, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries.
