It is not an offense under federal law to tape a conversation as long as one party consents to it. State laws vary. Under Maryland law, both parties must consent and that's where they tried to nail Tripp. Although, if Tripp was in MD and the slut was in DC arguably being an interstate call, the federal law would apply. I'm not sure on all the facts in this case. It was obviously a politically motivated prosecution just as the IRS audits of Clinton's accusers, FBI files, etc. Too many coincidences to be otherwise.
