Of course courtesy is lying is, when it is not the truth.

They find in new sociological studies that the most popular people are the best liars. Lying is required to facilitate well greased social interaction. The truth hurts- a lot more than lies do. And of course many lies are designed to make people feel good.

Courteous- marked by polished manners. Manners are designed to hide the truth and so not hurt people. When you eat a nauseating dish you don't spit the food out on the table. You hide the food in your napkin and push the food around so it seems you have eaten it. You LIE.
