Alan: "It may be a good plan to go short when the Nazdaq tops out. But you should be really careful about using USPIX. As I posted earlier, the performance of the fund since January has been terrible."

Because of Profunds' p*ss-poor USPIX performance, I plan on using Rydex to go short in my IRA.

Alan,
But you should be really careful about using USPIX. As I posted earlier, the performance of the fund since January has been terrible.

It has underperformed to the tune of 35%.

Your figures are correct, but if your timing is right on, you can make money in USPIX. According to Mutual Funds Magazine, for the period 3/10 - 4/14:

USPIX +91%
RYAIX +37%
POTSX +34%
BEARX +22%
POSSX +18%

Other bear funds were in the single digits for that period (except for a few without symbols).

Ken

It has underperformed to the tune of 35%. This is huge. Check it out yourself. Profunds has a daily list of NAVs on their website.

I disgree, In fact my measurements show USPIX to be much better than than their claims!

The best performance would be if it went up a higher percentage when the NDX down than it goes down when the NDX goes up. In other words you want max upside and little downside, and that's what you get (this year anyway).

downside risks: USPIX NDX
1/6 to 1/21 -27% -15%
1/28 to 3/27 -51% -37%
4/14 to 5/1 -38% -19%

Average -39% -24% 167% worse

Upside USPIX NDX
1/21 to 1/28 24% 11%
3/27 to 4/14 107% 32%

Average 65% 21% 309% better!!

agreed......that is why I would like Bob to call this one on his web site....so that the "Justaworkinstiff" crowd can participate in this on the way down....."he da man"....I would appreciate a rational approach in his upcoming newsletter followed by a call to buy one of these funds on his web site....on the day that he would pick.....I think that timing is everything......there has to be a way to communicate on a realtime basis with his "marketimers" and "listeners".....thoughts? thanks, what would you use to short after this rally? any ideas? If Bob is right and the air continues out of this nasdaq balloon after this rally, wouldn't it be alright if you just bought USPIX at some point at or near the top and waited ......do these funds lose their effectiveness over time as the nasdaq deflates....?
