I wasn't going to mention that, since I don't want to get into trouble (again), but since you brought it up;

Newmont had a very impressive rally from 22ish to 27.75 by May 4th, up over 25% compared to the weak rise in Barrick from 16 to 18.50, up only 15%. Newmont has given back about 80% of the rise, going back to 23. Barrick gave back only about 20% of the rise closing near $18

The NEM/ABX ratio peaked at 1.50 on May 4th, and is now back down to 1.26

If you don't buy NEM above $19 maybe you'll never buy it?

You're right, why buy NEM when there are better producers out there. PDG come to mind. There are always rumours, I could tell you of how many I've started that have come true. But for NEM to take over ABX would require a huge debt issue to ABX. For them to merge, there would need to be some overlapping of regions/productions. Most likely ABX & PDG makes a better fit. Although FN is a sign of a badly run company {inefficient} that is dier need of takeover. They should never have merged with Euro-Nevada.

ABX chart: Don't like it. It hit the $28 CAD, $18.60 USD resistance twice, and is likely to fade over the next few days economical news coming from USA and Canada.

<<If you don't buy NEM above $19 maybe you'll never buy it? Here's one for the rumour mill - how about a merger between ABX and NEM - a takeover by the former really? They tried it once in the days of Goldsmith - and he and Munk were friends, but couldn't come to terms - difference of 'corporate culture' I seem to remember - but have had a lot of experience since at working together in Nevada. Speaking of charts what do you think of ABX - it looks much stronger than NEM? >>

I don't know, seems the market thinks its ECO.
