IOW, POG and XAU love inflations, associated with either growth or recessions. That in itself is the key and it has got nothing to do with recessions as such. Deflationary recessions (those are common, too, you know) push POG and XAU down.

And now, my friend, inflation is slowing. Even if there is a recession, it is likely to be a deflationary one because of productivity increase, the interent and comparison shopping and last, but not the least, lack of buying power on part of tapped out consumers. Doesn't look good for gold at all.
