Not sure what you mean by "ideas." With respect to art, I would call most of an individual's reactions "perceptions." The response you have when you look at an apple or a sunset isn't an "idea," by my definition, and neither is the response you have when you look at a Monet painting of an apple or a sunset.

The difference, of course, is that in chemistry, there is generally one answer that is demonstrably "right". The appreciation of art is very different: the educated observer may have a more sophisticated view, but it is hard to say which, if any, view is the "right" one.
