We had a thunderstorm come through yesterday evening. First I knew of it was a power outage around six. Chris had just come home, and I asked him where the sprinkler was because I wanted to water the plants, and he said that the weatherman was predicting rain. Right then the power went off, and stayed off, and after the airconditioner and fans went off, I could hear thunder.

We have an electric stove, so I couldn't make supper, so we decided to go out to eat. On the way, we saw the power line that got hit by lightning, and was lying in the road, but a fire truck was in that lane blocking people from rolling over it. And then there was a torrential rainstorm.

Since the traffic was so bad, we were looking for some place close. I've been craving a really good spinach calzone, so we tried a neighborhood pizza joint we haven't tried yet. They offered calzones $6.50 "make it your own way" using any pizza topping, $1 per topping. I ordered a spinach, mushroom, onion and garlic calzone, which would have been rather pricey, but that was what I was in the mood for. But when they brought it, through the slashes in the baked dough, I could see . . . . raw spinach, raw mushrooms, raw onion bits, and bits of sauteed garlic, baked into the dough, so that the edges of the raw spinach were slightly browned and crispy. They baked me a spinach salad, but without dressing. No sauce, no cheese, no olive oil, they didn't even saute the vegetables first. Incredible.

Of course, I sent it back. The search for a good spinach calzone continues.

My neighbor is getting married now outside. I promised her good weather. It's 71, low humidity, just a breath of breeze and not a cloud in sight.
