I doubt very much they have production problems...

Does C'T have a history of leaking before NDAs expire? Perhaps that's why AMD didn't give them one.

True, there could be something horribly wrong, and the Tbirds are in short supply... but come on, would you (AMD) fly in journalists to your new fab if things weren't great? I can see it now, "Behind you sits the 1 working CPU that this FAB produced in the past 2 years. We expect an additional CPU in late fall." :) (taking a page from the Intel 1GHz 'release')

Anyhow, at the 1GHz level, cache speed ratio improvements themselves should tack on another 7-10% over athlon classic performance in the benchmarks for which that matters. Any other core improvements (which we really have no reason to expect) would be icing on the cake, as would, say, a 1.1 or 1.2GHz production part.

Re: I'll bet AMD doesn't want to let any [Thunderbirds] out while they "build inventory" ...

Any thoughts on aceshardware.com
According to this Ctech Taiwan report , VIA will announce its second processor Samuel this month, way ahead of the previously expected schedule. VIA expects to mass produce Samuel in July to compete with Celeron for the entry-level market. More details on Samuel are provided by Shopping Guide Taiwan, which reveals that the Socket-370 Samuel runs at 133 Mhz FSB with 3DNow! support, and will debut at 500 to 700 Mhz

Also, do any of Intel's current chipsets (810/815/820/840/850) require .18 FAB space?
