Great post Mr.Boot. People forget that the hatchet swings both ways. I haven't used shorting to any degree;but am studying it.

Das - again the rule of strict risk management applies, as a trader, never let your losses get away from you, short or long. Maintain strict, and I mean strict, risk management -the minute a trade goes wrong cut your losses and move on.

This is were so many go wrong - if your wrong - let it go.

We all felt the pain of the shorters in this past week - we are all traders and only hope for success for each and everyone of us. We are a community here on SI and no matter what we sling at each other in the end we all benefit from each others insight. (short or long - bull or bear)

All the best to you and great post!

West

I dropped 75% of my stake into the March "Meltup", while other shorters I know were not so lucky and were totally wiped out...

Just an observation here....when I see people post "people were totally wiped out"....they say that like someone dropped an ice cream cone. Many were "wiped out" during the past six weeks being long and margined...now I see many have been wiped out short now that the market exploded back up....when just "observing" threads like I've been doing I've come to a horrific conclusion...."online trading" is now the new VEGAS...people "risking" money they don't have....money they can't afford to lose....risking it all...most of course considered themselves "experts" when they "signed online"....and of course everyone appeared that way in a market that didn't go down....but now that the "real world" has appeared I see on many threads "so and so was completely wiped out"....to me this is very tragic situation....of course I can already see people typing..."eveyone is an adult and is responsible for his own actions"....and again I'm not accussing anyone of anything....It just hit me that the online situation works on the same dynamics that have ruined many people in Vegas.....I wonder how many people have "cash advance slips from there credit cards" so they can add money back to there online accounts....and I also wonder what happened to all the people who were busted out in the ADSP debacle last year the day after Thanksgiving...also amazing to me is the person who's company was one of the pioners in the "online experience" is in debt doing what many on these threads are doing to the tune of what was it 30 million dollars?....but everyone hears every day people go to Vegas and lose it all and don't think a thing about it....online is now providing the same thing, for many it just took much longer for that to happen
