Greg,

I categorize this guy's statement as ignorant and as shortsighted as those who didn't see the utility of microchips back in the 70's.

"Neil Turok, professor of mathematical physics at Cambridge
University, said he awaited the details with interest, but added: "I
doubt this will change our view of the fundamental laws of physics."

"Very hard to fathom what he has done, right up there in
accepting infinity."

Indeed it is difficult to fathom how the world and humanity will change in the next few years should this discovery prove to be true.

Just imagine travelling 300 times the speed of light. In essence it means a glance into the future 300 seconds before it happens. If a technology is developed to retrieve such information you could, for example, avoid an accident before it happens.

PS - You could also predict market direction 5 minutes before anyone else. Do you suppose some of those Stock Gurus already have a hold of this technology? <g>
