I can see what the welfare state created by Roosevelt has wrought in our age. I earn the right to comment every time I pay my taxes. I believe the blessings of the welfare state are mixed at best and overall, deleterious. JLA

Alex,
I have read, some time ago, that the few programs used by FDR that were successful, were designed by Hoover but, the Congress voted them down at the insistence of Roosevelt, so he could take the credit for them. Even so, most of his programs were not working to bring the country out of the depression, and to stir the nation to production, he, by executive order, called the entire Pacific Fleet into Pearl Harbor at the same time to make a tempting target for the Japanese to attack. Only the war effort brought us out of the depression. It is a good thing that Bull Halsey, and his carrier group, had "engine trouble" and couldn't make it to Pearl in time to be sunk. That would have left no navy of substance, in the Pacific Theater. ~H~
