Greg, got another longterm here. MIPS. Got this of yhoo. First of all, MIPS does not make anything that has to do with PCs. MIPS designs are licensed to leading semiconductor suppliers for use in diverse products such as Nintendo, PS, PS2, set-top boxes, digital cameras, palm computers, satelight dishes, digital TVs, Sony Dog, copiers, scanners, telecomm routers, etc. Comparing Intel/AMD to MIPS is like comparing Dell with Sony. The hottest growing market segments are broadband and hand-helds, where RISC architecture is a dominant player. Intel/AMD do not have any position in this market. Today's feature-rich consumer products require powerful, affordable processors. The high performance, tiny die size and low power consumption of MIPS-based processors have removed the barriers (of cost and die size) enabling OEMs to pack powerful 64-bit processors into consumer devices such as the ones I previously mentioned. The future is all about set-tops, digital TVs, Copiers, Scanners, Mobile computing, automobile computers, Telecomm routers, PS2, satelight dishes, digital cameras, etc. MIPS design are or will be in all of these products on a much greater basis in the future because of its tiny die size, low power consumption and high performance. MIPS designs already have been beating up Intel's clunky architecture. When you talk about portable computing power, MIPS is by far superior. Just wait until Sony Playstation 2 comes out. Everyone will know MIPS and what it does. MIPS has two computer chips in Sony PS2 and will receive royalties on both from Sony. If you look at MIPS financials, there are virtually no expenses as most of the revenues are realized as profits.
