There's difference between FUD, BS and facts. If you are trying to put out FUD, BS is very close. If you are trying to put out facts, but don't have an overview, FUD is very close. I recognize, that MSFT is the most impressive, competent, skilled FUD producer in the world, when it comes to technical facts. It took me years to find out why I always ended up with different opinions, when talking to MSFT employees than when I talked to fellow Windows programmers. I guess SUNW advocates are typically much more technical than MSFT advocates, which would explain much. For instance, DNS in the SUNW world means "the internet standard DNS as it is used on the internet", whereas in the MSFT world it means "the internet standard DNS as it is used in the Microsoft Windows 2000 system, not completely compatible with internet DNS". The same applies to so many other words, which make it completely impossible to communicate. Most people outside MSFT use scalability to describe the size of the biggest system divided by the size of the smallest system. In the MSFT world, scalability means something like "how many CPUs does Windows support" or "how many computers can I cluster". By redefining the words, MSFT can come up with impressive benchmarks and impressive sales arguments. I don't know much about SUNW, but I'm amazed about their marketing methods - some of them would be illegal over here. In many european countries, it is not allowed to compare a product with products from competing companies in commercials. It would not be legal for Sun to describe Windows in a commercial. And I have never seen a Sun commercial over here, and yes, they are big over here, too. FUD and BS doesn't make us wiser. If you don't know other systems than Windows, you should talk to some expert on other systems about them. If you don't know Windows, you should start listening to what makes people like it. Most of my time on this thread goes with listening, not with writing. Both SUNW and MSFT advocates have some factual basis for what they present, but that doesn't matter. We want overview and transparency. Not a modified form of truth.
