Burt, re;I'm hard pressed to understand why Timna needs Rambus. Sort of like saying your Chevy Geo
needs a V8. Am I missing something?

My guess is to persuade the memory makers to switch more volume to RDRAM since Timna is a high volume part. Also, the execs had no idea about the electrical problems of the MTH translator...worst case: a glitch or 2 may be found, but could be quickly fixed because "we're good at reacting to and fixing problems". Unfortunately, didn't work out that way.

Burt, another thought is that Intel is using MTH/Rambus as an "excuse" to delay Timan on purpose, to make it more competitive (e.g. add 133 support) or to free up some room to fab more CuMines. Intel did mention that this delay will not affects earnings....

Dear Burt: I suppose if you put your Chevy Geo on the race track it would need RAMBUS to run and win. At least that is the way it appears to me. While its easy to say why didnt they stick to SDRAM or now potentially DDRAM the point is INTC has always said, I thought, that their high performance chips needed RMBS to run properly. Am I wrong here? JDN
