RE:"Do you really believe that Dresdon/Copper is not yielding substantial numbers of better speed bin splits?

I am convinced that it not only has it but that it is building inventory in at least two higher speed grades so that it can play its trump cards, when the opportunity presents itself, in "SPADES.""

Maybe so but I found it a little odd that Gateway was offering "Select" models with all thunderbirds except the 1000 Mhz model which is still a K75 core. This could suggest that the speed binning for T-bird isn't quite up to par yet. Then again, we don't know whether these are copper or aluminum chips that Gateway is using. At any rate, as it stands now, it appears that the T-bird doesn't speed bin any better than K75. I suppose we will know more when Dresden really gets going...

COMMENTS?????

DARBES, I couldn't agree more. So far it seems this has been AMD's strategy all along. If Intel brings out the Willy this fall, it will probably be in small quantities (they have as much stated this publicly). Latest rumors put it at around 1.2 GHz. AMD pulls out their newest processors at the same speed, maybe one higher, with the one caveat being that they actually have product in significant numbers. BAM BAM BAM they slap Intels hand again. It works for me.

DARBES,

I believe that's true....that's why I thought AMD would play the trump card with the Dresden opening.

Sanders has been around too long and worked too hard to let a lead like this evaporate into thin/willy air.

Now I believe that AMD is putting together 'a package/program' that will allow them to gap up...and I suspect this package may be announced at Q2 earnings. I think the package will include some speed upgrades, some future chips and a split.
