Pravin <Anyway, if Via does release this thing in volume at the end of this month, AMD will have to ramp down K6-2 faster than they had planned.>

And cut the prices of Durons (or offer great deals to OEMs)and blow Celeron & Cyrix out of the H2O. The no Timna thangy will help. It will lower ASPs, but I don't think a $110 ASP is as important as gaining share.

Pravin,
RE:"I would hope that a 666 Mhz Cyrix III would not be competitive with 600 Mhz Duron. Anyway, if Via does release this thing in volume at the end of this month, AMD will have to ramp down K6-2 faster than they had planned."

Isn't this the old Centaur IDT chip code named Samuel and developed because it would scale. Basically it's a classic Pentium class chip with a weaker FPU than the old Pentium and far weaker than the Duron FPU...it was supposed to debut a speeds of 700 Mhz...

Basically, what happened to Joshua?

Jim

Pravin,

AMD will have to ramp down K6-2 faster than they had planned.

I hope AMD is not starting any new K6-2 wafers, except the + models.
