Kash,

the botched Tbird release

The T-Bird release was perfect. It was a large volume bringup of a new design from a new process from a new fab.

It went without a hitch. Can Intel do that?

Re: Its more than likely AMD will trade with the overall market

Kash,

My thoughts exactly.

If Naz tanks and takes AMD with it, out of the money July puts will be very attractive.

There will be no premium and all I will have to count on is a run up to Q2 earnings, which is inevitable (probably already started). If Naz can take us down to $80, selling July puts will be like printing money.

Even if I can't let the puts expire worthless, I should be able to buy them back for far less than paid.

I received e-mail with some updates on overclocking from Scott Tribe of Aces Hardware: aceshardware.com

HI.. read with interest your overclocking comments (Msg 114685) to
pgerassi and his comments about whether T-bird and Duron would be
overclockable

If you havent already done so.. check this message and its subsequent
thread out on Ace's Hardware:
aceshardware.com

It gets a bit deep at the start.. but essentially.. it appears this
fellows theory is confirmed by Johan and Bryan, the two site owner of
Aces.. if you find it to your interest.. perhaps you can relay it back
to pgerassi ( as he has no email addy I can send this to) and/or the
rest of your thread.

Another interesting overclocking theory I saw from JC's is at
pressroom.dk

Hope that helps.. as always.. I enjoy reading the posts on the AMD
thread. I note with some sarcasm that your two antagonists toweards AMD
on there - Elmer and.. Paul is it? - instantly disappeared once the news
of the Timna's delay broke..They can dish it out but cant take it
apparently.. serves em right;)

Later

Scott - sometimes news gatherer for Aces Hardware

PS: JC's has a press release from QDI on overclocking the Athlon with a
gadget they have here:

jc-news.com

If AMD can manage to stop counterfeiting and let overclockers overclock, it would be the best of both worlds. I think overclockers are important part of the market, and they keep getting new CPUs all the time. This would be a good part of the market for AMD to capture, and these people would be ambassadors for AMD wherever they move in their carriers.

Kash re <<We have had the botched Tbird release.>>

Oh comom Kash! What botched release?

They said over and over and over....what the speeds would be weeks ahead of time and they delivered on that. NOTHING was botched!

There is 3 weeks left in the quarter, and we are about 5 weeks before the earnings. Duron should be announced over the next 10 days or so. The MB and chipset support is looking great. Intel needs to execute flawlessly with the Willamette in order to put real pressure in AMD.

I think it is very likely that we will get an announcement by IBM at the same date that Duron is announced that Duron will be the first AMD chip to go in a desktop for the corporate market. That should be a good $8 pop or so. I am more pessimistic with Dell but it could happen.

Re: "I am not sure AMD is a good option play for June."

Comment: It is if you bought June 70's and 80's while you had the opportunity!
