The controversy is over the context. Displaying Piss Christ in a public museum in the US is analogous to showing a burning Koran covered with horse manure in Tehran.

"Piss Christ" -- the perfect solution to our question of the appropriate work to hang in a bathroom.

OK- so I haven't had my coffee yet.

For the record, I DIDN't think much of his concept. ANd your point about the hypocrisy of those who acted outraged or surprised at the outrage of others is so true. (Gee!! CHristians didn't LIKE it?????)
The "concept" (and I don't know the work except from seeing it in the news) seems kinda adolescent to me, and when I went and looked at other stuff by him, it looked boring. I wonder if he would have gotten as much fame if everyone had just shrugged off the Piss Christ, like I shrug off teens who try to be shocking. Well, my knowledge of photography is NIL. Maybe it's better than it looks to me.
