Thanks for the HFC tutorial. It was a good refresher. The lesson lays out a path for gradual deployment of FTTH and even states that FTTH should only be deployed in targeted areas where the large CAPEX can be recovered in a foreseeable timeframe. Sounds like a reasonable way to get there.

What struck me as a big deal when I read it was the fact that you have to power the line at the point of conversion from fiber to coax in order to do telephony. I hadn't thought about that. I'll bet that is expensive and difficult to accomplish. Further it is a difficult step that needs to be taken in order to support an intermediate solution. Bummer.
