Joe,

Do you scoop out the soft center or bury it in the soil? I've heard you can do this both ways but whatever you did seems to have worked. I was wondering if they would have a tendency to rot if you did not scoop out the tip.

I did exactly as you state but the base would rot and the tops turn brown. Maybe its my brown thumb :-)
