I'm glad I didn't watch it. I saw some clips in the promo and it seemed wild. I woke up in the middle of the night and channel surfed for a while until I got sleepy. As I was dozing off, I caught a bit of Hardball, where Bill Krystal was a guest. He was going on about the slumlord thing. He was saying that the tenant's check was made out to "Al Gore" and that the management company wasn't authorized to do any repairs without the Veep personally authorizing it. I checked online this morning but couldn't find any more about it. I did find this update from the Tennessee TV station that broke the story.Repairs Begin on Gore Rental House Vice President Al Gore's tenant in Carthage is finally getting what she wanted. Tuesday, a plumber went to Tracy Mayberry's house to fix the toilets and sink. After Mayberry complained Friday about the conditions to NewsChannel 5, her plight gained nationwide attention and she received a personal call from the vice president promising to make repairs. The plumber and the property manager scrubbed, scraped and even sprayed the grime out of Mayberry's toilet Tuesday. The plumber said the toilet was just stopped up and "no big deal." "It's just things that happen. You got septic tank trouble, it happens," the plumber said. Within a few minutes the toilet was as good as new. The plumber also unclogged the bathroom sink and got the other toilet in the house working. The plumbing was what Mayberry said the property manager, Charles Elrod, refused to fix. Elrod said he's not the problem. He said his wife sent the Mayberrys an eviction notice because the Mayberrys didn't take care of the house. "The house is trashed to be honest. They trashed the house. I feel like they should be out," he said. Mayberry said there's no way her family caused the cracks that line the walls and ceiling. "I'm not a filthy person. My house is clean." She said the kitchen floor was already chipping when she moved in, but Elrod said it was brand new. "Maybe (it was new) in 1973 but it ain't from 1999. Give me a break," Mayberry said. Meanwhile, phone calls from across the nation keep pouring in Tuesday. After a conservative radio host from New York called, he and his listeners pledged to send the Mayberrys several thousand dollars. "I don't take charity. He says it's not charity. To me it is," Mayberry said. Mayberry said all she wanted was a clean, working toilet, which she now has. Gore promised to make other repairs around the house and do some painting. That will take another couple of days. Monday, Mayberry was upset because she thought Gore had called again, but she said she realizes it was a prank. Gore's aides said they're going to give her a secret password that the vice president will use in the future if he calls. Gore's staff thought they found a temporary house for the Mayberrys to use during the repairs, but it fell through. The Mayberrys will stay at the house and the crews will work around them.
