TA, you're raising an interesting point here...it is quite true, health care costs are exploding, around the globe as it were. while the quality of healthcare is also improving, the cost explosion means money to finance it has to come from somewhere.

Al's printing press perhaps?

regards,

hb

OT--TA

One step in containing costs is to respect the Advance Medical Directive of patients under the Patient Self-Determination Act of 1990. One study indicted 80% of all costs under Medicare occur in the last two weeks of life when it is completely pointless. People are more than willing to self-limit (decline extreme measures) at or near end of life. They are being ignored. They are receiving expense, pointless medical care without their consent and against their previously expressed wishes...prolonging their suffering and their families' suffering.

TA, health care is an industry like any other. If it's a growing industry, then that's good for the economy. Anything that provides an excuse to spend money and create jobs boosts the economy, no matter whether it's CAT scans, video rentals, hula hoops, stealth bomber aircraft, whatever.

Your argument is sophist and borders on eugenics. You completely ignore the major financial boon of healing a productive member of society who otherwise would be a strain on resources.
