Alcatel Manages End-to-End Broadband Services with Newbridge Management Software BusinessWire, 06/6/2000 17:43 ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2000-- Integrated Management Solution Demonstrated 11 Days after Acquisition Completed At the Supercomm 2000 tradeshow today, Alcatel unveiled a major milestone in the process of integrating its own products with those of recently acquired Newbridge Networks. Just 11 days after completing the acquisition, the company is giving live demonstrations to customers of its integrated end-to-end network and service management solution. The Alcatel 46020 Network Manager, part of a network and services management software suite developed by Newbridge, is managing wireline and wireless broadband services originating on both Newbridge and Alcatel-developed access devices, and transported by Newbridge-developed core switches. The managed products include the Alcatel ASAM, LiteSpan, LMDS platforms, and the Alcatel 670 RSP (Routing Switch Platform). "Usually when companies of this size come together and try to integrate their software products, the wait is a long one. In contrast, Alcatel is aggressively demonstrating its commitment to integrate multiple technologies under a common network manager," said Leif Hoglund, an analyst for RHK. "This is good news for customers, since Alcatel and Newbridge each bring strong products to the market which, when integrated, are even stronger." The demonstration of this capability means that the consolidated Alcatel broadband product suite, which commands the No.1 market position in broadband access and switching worldwide, is now integrated and managed end-to-end by a single network and services management umbrella. "We want to make the pace, agility and intent of the product integration process as tangible as possible," said Pearse Flynn, President of the Carrier Networking Group at Alcatel, and formerly President of Newbridge Networks. "This development offers a considerable enhancement of the benefits available to existing and potential customers of Alcatel, and you can be sure there is a lot more upside still to come as we roll the process forward." The 46020 Network Manager and its associated suite of product and service management modules has long been recognized as offering the most powerful and complete network and services management package on the market. The suite offers service providers the opportunity to create, deploy and manage innovative services to customers in the shortest possible time, and removes much of the inherent management costs through the thorough automation of business processes, from ordering through to billing. The development effort that produced the 46020 Network Manager has been extremely committed to open network management standards, and the integration has been greatly speeded by this. In this context the 46020 Network Manager, in conjunction with the Alcatel 940 Service Subscription Manager, works seamlessly with Alcatel-developed element managers for the individual access products. About Alcatel Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of EURO 23 billion in 1999, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries.
