And here are SIA projections for chip demand till 2003. Doesn't break out by type, but does break out geographically (not that these projections aren't subject to frequent revision):

Thanks for the flash memory link...

techweb.com

Nice that TechWeb is actually doing some free SanDisk advertising.

Here is another link to SNDK in the news today...

biz.yahoo.com

As far as addressing capacity issues recall, from my notes from the SNDK Shareholders' Meeting that capacity measured in megabytes (Eli acutally tabulated results to date in terabytes) will increase 30-50% on a quarterly basis and that SanDisk will continue to shrink the flash geometries in addition to adding new capacity. The UMC investment can only appreciate as long as fab capacity remains constrained. Also, the beauty of the FlashVision JV will become apparent next year. I would like to see how many companies worldwide will have the 512Mbit flash capability within the next 12 to 18 months. Also, 300mm wafers with 0.15 micron line widths and the combined genius of SanDisk and Toshiba will likely set the standard to be emulated by the remainder of the high density flash community.

Yes, I am cheerleading here...

...and for good reason.

Good Luck to SNDK Longs.
