Insitu - I prefer almost anything but Win9X, personally. I have long favored Unix because of the flexibility and power of the TCP/IP management, still a weak point in the MSFT stack even in Win2K. Likewise the reliability. But I understand that most casual users of PCs - which include the vast majority of users - find Unix way too intimidating. And, like everyone else, I have a Win9X desktop. I use it for digital video, both still and motion, for printing photos, and the kids use it for web surfing and games. For those purposes it is a fine platform.

I used a MAC up until 1995. I liked the user interface, the easy management of peripherals, the integrated multimedia capability. I think Apple made a huge mistake by not opening their platform base in the mid-80s. But that's history. I don't see any compelling reason to use a MAC today, and donated my system to our school a couple of years ago.
