TP,

I don't play options in my IRA accounts, even though I have been cleared (from 2 brokerages) to write cover calls; buying calls is permitted also.

Since profits in (tradaitional) IRA accounts are tax deferred, it would seem a moot point to worry about it.

Since gains and losses not recognized in IRA, I doubt you need to worry about wash sales, since all is taxed at ordinary income rates on distribution. However, many brokerage firms will not permit option trading in retirement accounts.
