Yes, I believe so. An extremely poor friend of mine, when I visit him, can offer me, and can afford to offer me, foodstuffs and comforts that would make a king of old sh@t gold bricks to even imagine such variety and comfort.

But why do so many family's have both parents working... seems obvious to me it's going backwards or spinning it's wheels. The 'family' may have a higher average income but with both parent's working, it's not necessarily better off. IMO this one fact is a huge negative in quality of life, and it points DOWN not up... would love to see some statistics on this. This may be one of those 'obvious examples' that show the downside of using rote GDP, and INCOME type numbers in economic analysis while ignoring the unmeasurables.
