I agree that the Catholic Church as a whole these days is not fanatical.

While I believe Church policies on contraception to be outdated, I think the venom directed at the Church for adhering to this policy is misguided. Suffering may result from overpopulation, but to a true believing Catholic Earthly suffering represents but a fraction of what will be "experienced" by any particular soul. From this perspective, the prelates of the Church do not act out of heartlessness and indifference, but rather from what some have called "the ultimate long term prospective."

Those who do not believe in Eternal Life may have a different view of what should be done in this area, or of the effects of Church policy, but to assign malice or indifference to the high priests of the Church is to tar them with emotions they simply do not have.
