I downloaded Black Ice and found no attacks and I've had DSL for over a month. I don't leave my connection on all the time, though. I was told that when I disconnected and reconnected it would use another IP address and that would be a foil to intruders. Apparently it's working...either that or there's nothing on my machine worth seeing <g>

Thanks for the tip about Black Ice, though; I've been concerned.

<edit> The instant I posted this response I got a signal from the little Black Ice icon and found an "attack" <sigh>
Now where's that post about the defender thingee...

OT: Firewalls

Alan, Thanks for your update on firewalls. My DSL automatically disconnects for at least five minutes every two hours. Then I have to re sign on after waiting five minutes. (This is usually a good excuse to get away from the computer.) Does the fact my DSL is not on all the time lessen my need for a firewall? Also, don't Macs (which I recently gave up and now regret) come with firewall protection already installed?

Regards, Huey
