appro,

Oh, yes my local PBS channel is (and has been) playing "Do Wop 50" day-in and day-out

Day-in & day-out would probably be a tad much even for a fan such as I, but I'm glad to hear it has been playing nationally (confirmed by Dennis as well). Anybody remember a 50's tune called "High on a Hill" by Scott English? I'd classify it as Doo Wop but I'm not sure if it might just have been a regional hit - it's usually ranked as the most requested "oldie" in the "Burg" area (along with Build Me Up Buttercup). Good song.

Head's up to fans of the "Material Girl"

Are there any around here? ;)

Gary

Here's one for anyone - I heard this today and it included this classic line (probably late 60's, early 70's):

"Would you like some of my tangerine
I know I'll never treat you mean."

I recognized the song but I would have never, ever guessed the group - I would imagine a "1 hit wonder".

appro - I finally found some info on Stan Jones

allmusic.com

Not one of your major songwriters, but he also penned the words to one of the great Western theme songs:

Cheyenne, Cheyenne where will you be camping tonight?
Loney man, Cheyenne, will your heart stay free and light?
Dream Cheyenne of a girl you may never love
Move along, Cheyenne like the restless cloud up above.

The wind that blows, that comes and goes, has been your only home.
But will the while will one day see and you'll no longer roam.

Move along, Cheyenne the next pasture's always so green.
Driftin' on, Cheyenne don't forget the things you have seen,
And when you settle down where will it be Cheyenne.
Cheyenne!
