Ya, well, when they feel compelled to rattle off a list of accomplishments from twenty years ago you know you're dealing with a live one. Look rude, there's nothing magic about the past and about the only thing you could say was that software engineers were by and large not too bright: many notable exceptions notwithstanding. The reason is you had a small pool of circumstantial programmers, now you have a very large pool with a sort of an informal draft going on at dozens, if not hundreds of franchise teams, as it were. The mean programmer of yesteryear pales in comparison. I wonder if we'll ever lose this phoney, inflationary view of the past. I doubt it. As for your "axe to grind" evaluation, keep your daytime job.
