Wow, it's good you addressed that to "everyone," because I got a brain cramp reading it.

But here's a question, also for everyone.

When my Norton System Doctor tells me to update my rescue disks, I do it. When it's done, it tells you to test your rescue disks (one zip, one floppy) by rebooting your computer with them.

I've never been able to do that. I try, but the computer doesn't reboot.

Somebody said "use a bootable disk," but when I went to Radio Shack to ask about that, nobody there had ever heard of a bootable disk.

Any advice?

If my hard drive fries again, I'll lose everything a second time and have no alternative to suicide. A person can take only so much.

List of CD files...

In a DOS window, type DIR /b G:*.* > filename.ext and you'll get a file with a list of files on your CD. (Assuming G: is your CD player)

For your next CD, use DIR /b G:*.* >> filename.ext and the contents of this next CD will be appended to filename.exe. Continue with this command until all CDs are processed.

The /b (Bare or brief) switch eliminates the extra stuff like headers, footers, summaries, dates, sizes, and attributes from being displayed. You can use DIR /? to review a list of other possibilities, some of which may be handy.

When finished, you'll have a plain-text file listing your CDs' contents. You can edit this with NotePad or most text processing applications.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. You can make your work easier by typing DOSKEY before starting. You can then retrieve your DOS commands with the Up-Arrow key instead of re-typing them.

P.P.S. With a bit more work, you could write a .BAT file to mark when you switch CDs. Just cut and paste this into a file with .BAT extension.

@ECHO OFF
ECHO New CD starts here >> CD_FILES.TXT
DIR /B G:*.* >> CD_FILES.TXT
