hi mag,

thanks for the ctdu

well, the patient may be in "Heavy duty 24 hour watch in the intensive care ward", but that doesn't mean you haven't gotten one step closer to resolving the problem.

as i was saying in #reply-13843030 , the ensign people pointed at the norton software as the likely culprit. you removed all of it from your hard drive. now you have some solid info to go back to them with, i.e it ain't norton.

this puts you closer to a solution, imo. one way to find out what's wrong is to find out what isn't wrong.

what about taking their software off your machine and seeing whether you get crashes? sounds like you're getting to the point of doing an uninstall and reinstall of their software anyway.

just some thoughts

:)

Re: crash test dummy update:

Have you scanned your file system for altered or corrupted files or subfolders? In win 98: Start/ programs/accessories/system toosl/system info/tools/system file checker. This utility allows you to extract files from your installation CD'S or floppys to replace corrupted or changed files, drivers, ect. that may be found- worth a shot.

crash test dummy update

Patient made it through the night with explorer, systray and comsmd open. I also ran a Microsoft scan disk (thorough version) last night and it found no errors.

This morning I have replaced the corrupted dll files via system file checker (microsoft version).

Patient "feels" perky this morning. I think it's like an animal at the vet. You cannot speak to it to understand how it's doing, it just starts to act better.

Here's to teamwork....
