Dave... I will be interesting, but we first have to see it! So far I haven't seen them come up with one for DDR. I hear them talking the talk but no one is walking the walk!<G>

Hi Dave B; Re VIA's RDRAM plans... If there were any, would be difficult to spin. But highly unlikely. From the VIA website, it is quite clear that they don't like Rambus at all:

Rambus 800MHz serial bus is a technology, BUT NOT A PRODUCT!!!
Revolutionary: Dramatic Reinvestment without Assurance
VIA Scenario: Evolutionary PC100MHz > PC133MHz > PC200/266MHz > DDR-II

Page 15 is about Rambus costs, and includes an hilarious graphic image of cash falling into a hat marked Intel/Rambus, while an unhappy end user looks on. The slide discusses the costs of RDRAM (as compared to PC133):

* Rambus increases costs:
* Die size
* Packaging
* Testing
* Yield
* Royalty
* Connector
* PCB
* Resistor and capacitor for termination
* Chipset & mainboard
* According to key industry sources Rambus adds a 25-40% cost premium over SDRAM
