Here's just one small example of the rules now in effect in the EU: If you're a grocer, there are rules governing all the stuff you sell. There is, for example, a specification governing the minimum radius of curvature that is allowed for bananas - if they don't meet the spec they can't be sold! (I wonder if rotten bananas can be sold as long as they're straight?)
