Availability of Katmai processors at Pricewatch - sometimes, even before a launch - used to be proudly referred to as "Stealth Launches".

Regarding your impression that Intel was supposed to meet demand by this month, here is a very interesting past post by Elmer that I found while I was going through my book-marks.

Re: "Where was your rally ? We sort of missed it on the NYSE."

I was going to write some more AMD puts today but with AMD tanking I decided
to wait a little while. I guess the market is digesting the fact that AMD
can't find enough buyers for their Athlons and Intel's capacity is
about to swamp the market. ASPs will drop and AMD will once again return
to red ink.
I consideration of our AMD friends I am happy that you guys
have made some good money here and God knows you've waited patiently enough
for it so you might think about taking some profits here because I don't
think AMD will find a more perfect set of conditions then they did in Q4
and still they couldn't sell all the Athlons they made. What is the use of
Dresden other than a big hole in the ground to throw money into?

I looked at the historical quotes for AMD and INTC during the time frame (Jan'00 3'rd week) of the above post - AMD & Intc were at ~ $38 and $98 respectively.
